CrossFit can be intimidating to those who have never tried it, however, at CrossFit Taylors, our goal is to show anyone who walks through our doors what they are capable of, using the varied, functional movements of CrossFit.
CrossFit is defined as "constantly varied, functional movements, performed at high intensity, across broad time domains." What this means is that we workout using movements that come up in everyday life. We want you to be prepared to attack any obstacle that may come your way for however long you may need to face them. These movements include basic elements of weightlifting, cardio, and gymnastics. By constantly changing up these movements and the intensity they are performed at, results have shown great improvements in health and fitness including weight loss, when paired with a healthy, balanced diet.
You should bring good workout clothes and shoes, a water bottle and a towel, if needed. All of the necessary weightlifting, gymnastics, cardio and stretching equipment is provided at CrossFit Taylors, so you do not need to bring any equipment unless you would like to!
If you are a resident of Greenville County, your first class at CrossFit Taylors is free of charge! We want to show you that our scheduled group classes and open gym hours will provide you with the changes that you want to achieve.
Of course! Our team is dedicated to making sure that each individual has fun, stay safe, and sees results. Every movement in CrossFit is scalable based on the individual’s fitness level. This ability to customize a workout enables us to maintain the intensity level while keeping the safety of our athletes the number one priority. We would like to know of any pre-existing injuries so that we can help athletes scale the workout accordingly.
No! Our goal at CrossFit Taylors is for anybody living in the Greenville, Taylors or Greer area of South Carolina to walk in our door and feel welcome. Keep in mind that your success begins with a decision to get started, and then continue to show back up. We want to work with you from day one to figure out what your health and fitness goals are, and then help you reach them through CrossFit workouts.
Our scheduled group classes last one hour. We begin with an overview of what to expect for the class, move on to a brief warm-up for the workout, provide instructions for each movement, and then complete the workout of the day (WOD). We encourage athletes to show up to class early and/or stay a few minutes late to do any additional personal stretching or mobility work that may be needed.
We want you to always feel like you are well-informed and are never afraid to ask questions. Below, we’ve provide a basic list of commonly used CrossFit words and abbreviates, in case you have never tried it before or need a refresher.
“As many rounds and/or reps as possible” - Trying to stay moving and complete the most work in a given amount of time.
“Every minute on the minute” - At the start of each minute, complete the task given, then rest the remainder of the minute.
Complete the workout as quickly as possible to get the best time.
Short for “metabolic conditioning”, a metcon features a set of movements repeated for a certain time period, like what you would see in an AMRAP. Metcons are usually short, intense, and require constant movement and muscle use.
This is 20 seconds of work followed by ten seconds of rest for 8 rounds, which results in 4 minutes of work.
